The founder of Sikh religion is Gurunanak dev, the first guru of sikh religion is gurunanakji, he was Born on April 1469 at Nankana Sahib, Pakistan and died on September 22, 1539, Kartarpur, Pakistan, the name of his Spouse is Mata Sulakhni and children are Sri Chand and Lakhmi Das, the name of parents are Shri Mehta Kalu and Mata Tripta. Regarding birth time of nanakji there is some doubts but as per Wikipedia information since the congregation starts singing Gurbani at about 1:20 am at night, which is the actual time of birth of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

Nanakji was kind and spiritual since from the childhood. He used to spend the money in helping the needy one every time he got the money from the parents to bring some one. As per the information he was also impressed with the teachings of Kabira, one of the saint. Many types of strange stories are there about Nanakji. One is that once when he stepped into river for bath then disappeared and seen after 3 days. 2nd is once he visited the Mecca the worship place of Muslims. Once he was sleeping by keeping his feet towards the Kaba i.e. the direction which is prostrated by Muslims, Kazi Rukan-ud-din saw this and became angry. But when he asked him to take away the feet to other direction then Nankji said you just keep my feet to the direction where there is no kaba. kazi was boiling that time and started to move the feet but he found that wherever he is moving the feet he is finding the kaba.  
He used to take knowledge of all religion and that's why he spend time with hindu pandits, mullah and other scholars.

His main instructions are written in guru granth sahib and he said to the followers to not worship him but follow the instructions given in this book and that's why sikh religion worship this book and that's why in gurudwara the reading of guru granth sahib is the main activity seen every where.
