General Things Used in PitraPaksh For Tarpan:
Fresh water, Black til, kusha, rice, Jau, milk, white flowers are used to perform the tarpan and other process in shraadh paksh. It is said that these things give peace to us and to our ancestors too.

While doing the shraadh or rituals for the peace of forefathers we also use the gotra which represent our generation, this is the identity of us that from which lineage we belong. So before starting the pooja we take sankalp by reciting name and gotra which remind us about our generation.

It is also a fact that if any one perform shraadh devotedly then not only the ancestors satisfy but also other souls get satisfied and this bring a transformation in life of person. While doing any shraadha pooja or other rituals for pitru It is good to keep face towards South or South West Corner(Nairitya Con). This direction is given to pitragan.
What Is PanchBali In Shraadh Paksh:
Noon is the best time to perform the shraadh karm kaand and so it is good to make food with purity and devotion and then to take out plates separately for God Cow, Dog, Crow and ants. This is called the PANCH-BALI.
With this feed any brahman with respect and satisfy him with dakshina, cloths etc and treat him as your ancestors and take his blessings.
Don't forget to perform TARPAN in any case as it is the best way to please forefathers/ancestors/pitra.

Although we can perform tarpan anywhere but as per the epics 8 places are taken as most important for tarpan and they are -- Ayodhya(Famous Ram temple city)

- Haridwar near the bank of river Ganga
