There are different things used in pooja of lord shiva like as Bilv patra, milk, water, dhatura, honey etc.
Also different things are associated with shiva like as bristly in feet/kada, skin of deer/mrigchaal, rudraksh, Naag/snake, khappar/narmund, damru, trishul, ganga, moon. These things have there own importance.

  1. Bilwapatra:The leaf of bel has many medicinal power. It keeps the digestion good and is a good purifier. Since lord shiva meditate always and so devotees offer bel-patr. 
  2. Skin Of Deer/Mrigchaal: It is believed that skin of deer is good for meditation, it prohibits energy of body to enter in earth and so person feel good and energetic while meditating on skin of deer. 
  3. Rudraksh: It is a source of energy and help the wearer to maintain energy and power. It maintain blood pressure also so has many medicinal benefits. 
  4. Naagdevta/snake: Snakes are symbols of kundalini shakti i.e. the source of energy within body. As per yogic scriptures, yogis activate kundalini shakti through meditation and achieve many divine powers. 
  5. Damru:It is believed that the sound of damru kills many bacteria and so is said to be auspicious. So the tapaswi also keep damru with them. 
  6. Trishul: It represent goddess jagdamba(sign of power), It is used to finish evils, negative energies. 
  7. Ganga Jal: One of the sacred river which starts from Himalaya. It is the most pure river and has great flow, lord shiva has the ability to control this powerful ganga which shows that if we want to control our emotions, feelings then worship of shiva is the best way. 
  8. Moon:It controls our mind which is controlled by lord shiva , so we can also control our mind by worshiping lord shiva. 
So all the above things show that it is very easy to make life successful by worshiping lord shiva.

  4. "Om haum joom sah" is the trayakshar mrityunjay mantra to worship lord shiva.
