Paksh and tithis are very important in astrology because in hindu scriptures, astrology books, holy books we can get details about to perform works on auspicious days, The calculation of auspicious days depends upon the combination of specific tithis in specific day and in specific paksh. So if any one is know aware of paksh and tithis then it is not possible to get success in rituals for different purpose.

Some poojas are good in shukla paksh and some are in krishna paksh but many ones are not aware of the concept of these paksh. When I ask someone to do pooja in shukla paksh then some ask , what is this shukla paksh, how to know about shukla paksh. How to know tithi and so on.

As per Indian astrology, Month is divided into 2 paksha and there are 15 days in each paksh. In every paksh there are 15 tithis.

The 2 paksha in a montha are following:
  1. Shukla Paksh- From the next day of no moon night to the full moon night.
  2. Krishna Paksh - From the next day of full moon night to the no moon night.

  1. Pratipada, It is also called ekam.
  2. Dwitiya, it is also called Dooj.
  3. Tritiya, it is also called teej.
  4. Chaturthi, it is also called chaturthi.
  5. Panchmi
  6. Shashthi, it is also called Chat.
  7. Saptmi
  8. Ashtmi
  9. Navmi
  10. Dushmi
  11. Ekadashi, it is also called gyaras.
  12. Dwadashi, it is also called baras.
  13. Trayodashi, it is also called teras.
  14. Chaturdashi, it is also called chaudas.
  15. Poornima/ Amavasya
