- The root of the thumb and root of index finger is considered to be the “Pitru Teerth or the ancestral place” and this is the reason why it is said to offer water from the thumb for offering to the ancestors.
- The front part of all the fingers is called “Dev Teerth i.e. places of divine energies” that is why when tarpan has to be given to the gods, it is given from the front part of the fingers.
- The place where the palm ends below the thumb is called “Brahma Tirtha”.
- The space between the index finger and the middle finger is called the “mother's place”.
- The place below the middle finger is called “brother's place”.

- The little finger i.e. the part below the smallest finger is called the “place of children and education”.
- The place where the heart line starts is called “Karam Sthan”.
- The middle part of the palm is called the “Kartal Madhya Sthaan”.
